Twenty-four years on the workbench.

In 2001, two lead engineers and a group of professional enthusiasts opened a small workshop on the south coast of Devon — no signboards, no press releases. Just workbenches, a test stand, and a quiet belief.

The early work was motorcycles: British, Japanese, any make. Repairing, retrofitting, upgrading. Reliability-oriented tuning typical for the period. But from the very first day, Jacobs & Fieldman carried a signature — cast forged pistons, made in-house.

By the mid-2000s it was clear: conventional cast pistons were the weak point in any tuning programme. The workshop had already solved that problem — a denser, directionally oriented grain structure, no micro-porosity, significantly higher resistance to thermal fatigue.

No loans, no outside investors. Only engineering and reinvestment of profits into equipment. The engineers took orders, stood at the machines, and drove out to see customers themselves. No scandals, no recalls.

2001

Workshop founded

Torquay, South Devon. Motorcycle repair and retrofit work begins. First cast forged pistons produced in-house from day one.

Mid 00s

Cast forging proven

Denser grain structure, zero micro-porosity, and superior thermal fatigue resistance demonstrated versus conventional castings.

Late 00s

Own laboratory

Metallography and thermal analysis lab established — a rarity for a shop of this size. Full in-house validation from billet to assembly.

Digital quality records

Every piston ships with a full datasheet: actual dimensions, hardness test results, and a skirt profile chart. First CNC upgrade.

2018

Second upgrade

Controlled ageing furnace for alloy series 4032 and 2618. Expansion into agricultural and industrial markets.

2025

EVP partnership

Asian consortium EVP acquires a stake. British technology scales globally while the Torquay workshop and marque are fully retained.

A system.

The secret was never a single innovation. It was the integration of own metallurgy, own test methods, and own discipline — applied consistently from raw billet to finished assembly.

Every batch validated on the test stand before leaving the workshop. Every new piston profile tested in-house; thermal clearances individually determined; coatings evaluated against application requirements.

In 2025, the Asian consortium EVP — a company with modern factories and global distribution channels — acquired a stake in Jacobs & Fieldman. Not to close it down or rebrand it. But to take everything built over 24 years and transfer it to high-volume production.

The Jacobs & Fieldman brand is retained as an engineering marque. The technical archive, laboratory methods, and calibration data have been transferred to EVP. Production is not being moved out of Torquay — it will be scaled through Asian manufacturing capacity.

What used to be produced in dozens per month will now be made in thousands — while retaining the cast forged piston assembly, laboratory-validated operating parameters, and full documentation on service life.
